The Reference Daily Intakes (RDI, formerly Recommended Dietary Requirements or RDA) serve as guides to ensure adequate nutrition. These usually exceed the levels required to prevent symptoms of deficiency by 2 standard deviations; the increased amounts are intended to compensate for any problems a person may have for absorption or bioavailability. The nutrients are divided into fat soluble vitamins, water soluble vitamins and minerals.
