Rarely a parent may be alarmed by the presence of a red diaper in a neonate or infant.
Causes may include:
(1) Serratia marcescens colonization of the GI tract or urinary tract infection
(2) drug (many drugs causing red urine would not be given to a neonate or infant)
(3) food source (less likely if not weaned)
(4) blood
(5) porphyria
Differential diagnosis:
(1) diaper made of red cloth
