Yamamoto et al reported the RemKICG Index for evaluating a patient undergoing a partial hepatic resection for a liver tumor. The index can help to determine the volume of resection that will minimize the risk of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). The authors are from multiple institutions in Japan.
Patient selection: prior to partial hepatectomy for a liver tumor
Parameters:
(1) estimated hepatic remnant in percent (Rem%)
(2) indocyanine green disappearance rate (KICG) from Makuuchi criteria
where:
• The KICG was 0.146 +/- 0.007 without PHLF vs 0.128 +/- 0.005 with PHLF
RemKICG index =
= (0.0263 * (Rem%)) + (11.8358 * (KICG))
value of X =
= (RemKICG index) - 1.2457
probability of PHLF =
= 1 / (1 + EXP(X))
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve was 0.74.
