Description

Gorelick et al reported the Revised Pediatric Emergency Assessment Tool (RePEAT) for evaluating pediatric patients in the Emergency Department (ED). The final score depends on combining the models for ED intervention and hospital admission. The authors are from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Children's Research Institute of Milwaukee, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, duPont Hospital for Children and the University of Pennsylvania.

Patient selection: pediatric patient in the Emergency Department

Parameters:

(1) percent for ED intervention

(2) percent for hospital admission

RePEAT score =

= (percent for ED intervention) + (2 * (percent for hospital admission))

where:

If the patient it is admitted it is assumed that the patient has had an ED intervention.

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

maximum score: 3

The RePEAT score is a valid predictor of the level of care.
