Description

Health care facilities not only receive and send hazardous materials, but also may care for persons following an accident involving hazardous materials.  The Department of Transportation (DOT) and other government agencies may need to be notified if an accident involving hazardous materials occurs.


Indications for Incident Reporting

 

If as a direct result of hazardous materials:

(1) There is property damage exceeding $50,000.

(2) One or more major transportation routes or facilities is closed for one or more hours.

(3) The routine or operational flight pattern of an aircraft is changed.

(4) The general public is evacuated for a period of one or more hours.

(5) A person receives injuries requiring hospitalization.

(6) A person is killed.

 

If there is spillage, breakage, fire or possible contamination with:

(1) an infectious agent (etiologic agent).

(2) a radioactive material.

 

If there is a release of a marine pollutant exceeding :

(1) 450 liters (119) gallons for liquids

(2) 400 kilograms (882 pounds) for solids

 

Any other situation important enough to warrant immediate reporting.
