Description

Postoperative urinary retention is a common problem that can have long term consequences. Keita et al identified risk factors associated with urinary retention in the early postoperative period. The authors are from Hospital Bichat-Claude Bernard in Paris.

Parameters:

(1) age of the patient

(2) volume of fluids given intraoperatively

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 3

• The risk of early postoperative urinary retention increases with the number of risk factors present.
