Onate-Figuerez et al reported a pooled analysis on risk factors for fatigue in patients with spinal cord injury. The authors are from the National Hospital for Paraplegics and Universidad de Castilla La Mancha in Spain.


Patient selection: spinal cord injury

 

Factors with strongest association for fatigue:

(1) anxiety

(2) stress

(3) depression

(4) low self-efficacy (high self-efficacy against)

 

Factors with moderate association for fatigue:

(1) pain

(2) analgesic medication

(3) lack of participation (high participation against)

 

Factors with a weak association for fatigue:

(1) assistive device

(2) lesion level

(3) incomplete spinal cord injury

(4) other medications

(5) lack of physical activity (high physical activity against)
