Trichosporon species can cause pulmonary infections.
Risk factors for Trichosporon pneumonia:
(1) immunosuppression including organ transplant
(2) immunodeficiency
(3) hematologic malignancy
(4) neutropenia
(5) contaminated bronchoscope
(6) cystic fibrosis
Chest imaging studies will show a pulmonary infiltrate. Cavitary lesions can occur.
A patient with Trichosporon pneumonia may have other pathogens (Pneumocystis, Aspergillus, etc) infecting the respiratory tract.
