Hutton et al surveyed the prevalence of risk factors for violence in a person at ultra-high risk for psychosis. These may be able to identify a person who should be targeted for intervention. The authors are from Greater Manchester West Mental Health Foundation.
Patient selection: ultra-high risk for psychosis
Risk factors for future violence:
(1) history of convictions for violence
(2) other history of violent behavior
(3) violent ideation
(4) suspiciousness and/or jealousy
(5) alcohol or substance misuse
(6) irritability or anger
(7) expressions of concern from others
Factors that may reduce risk:
(1) engagement with treatment
