Strom et al reported risk factors for percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube placement in a patient being treated for oropharyngeal carcinoma. These can help to identify a patient who is more likely to undergo the procedure for nutritional support. The authors are from Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
Patient selection: oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, during chemoradiation
Placement of a PEG tube during chemoradiation occurred in lower risk patients, with high risk patients have the PEG tube placed before therapy.
