Description

Fong et al developed a simple score for predicting mortality in a patient with propofol infusion syndrome (PRIS). The authors are from Northeastern University and Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston.

Parameters:

(1) age of the patient

(2) rhabdomyolysis

(3) hypotension

(4) metabolic acidosis (including lactic acidosis)

(5) cardiac toxicity (cardiac arrest, arrhythmia, heart failure)

(6) renal failure

In addition to scoring parameters, 3 combination pairs were also scored.

• There are 64 combinations for the 6 parameters.

risk score =

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 4 (according to the paper)

• The higher the score the higher the mortality rate.
