Description

Gsenger et al reported the RSV CLASS score for evaluating a pediatric patient with a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) respiratory tract infection. It can be used to determine the clinical severity of the infection. The authors are from Heidelberg University, LMU Munich, and affiliated children's hospitals.


CLASS refers to Clinical Assessment Severity Score.

 

Patient selection: infant or young child with RSV respiratory tract infection

 

Parameters:

(1) cough

(2) tachypnea

(3) rales

(4) wheezing

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 4

• A score >= 3 indicates a high risk for being admitted with a lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI).
