Rarely a person may have spontaneous rupture of the bladder after binge drinking.
Patient selection: patient in a period of binge drinking
Risk factors for bladder rupture:
(1) bladder outlet obstruction
(2) ingestion of a large amount of liquids
(3) structural weakness of the bladder wall (severe cystitis, surgical scar, diverticulum, etc)
(4) profound intoxication, so unable to recognize the need to void, especially if the person is also abusing drugs
Clinical features:
(1) pelvic pain
(2) urine ascites
Differential diagnosis:
(1) bladder rupture due to blunt trauma
