Description

Butler et al reported the Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patients with Pain (SOAPP). This can help to identify a chronic pain patient at risk of abuse when prescribed opioids for pain. The authors are from Inflexxion, Inc, and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.


Patient selection: chronic pain patient prescribed opioids

 

How often/Have?

(1) moods swings

(2) smoke a cigarette within an hour of waking up

(3) family member with a problem with alcohol or drugs

(4) close friends with a problem with alcohol or drugs

(5) others suggested that you had an alcohol or drug problem

(6) attended an NA or AA meeting

(7) taken a medication in a way other than how prescribed

(8) treated for a drug or alcohol problem

(9) medications been lost or stolen

(10) others expressed concern over your use of medication

(11) felt a craving for medication

(12) asked to give urine to screen for substance abuse

(13) used illegal drugs in the past 5 years

(14) legal problems or been arrested over lifetime
