Vauthey et al proposed a TNM classification system for hepatocellular carcinoma using a simplified T designation. This can help reduce the complexity of patient stratification while providing prognostically useful information. The authors are from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Mayo Clinic and Hopital Beaujon in Paris.
Parameters:
(1) simplified T designation (sT)
(2) degree of fibrosis (F)
(3) metastasis to regional lymph nodes (N)
(4) distant metastasis (M)
