Agarwal et al used the SOFA Plus pH score to evaluate a patient in the ICU. The authors are from Durgawati Medical College, SN Medical College, and FH Medical College in India.
NOTE: How it performs versus the SOFA plus lactate need to be studied.
Patient selection: ICU
Parameters:
(1) SOFA score (on admission, at a specific time, or maximum for day)
(2) arterial pH

SOFA plus pH score =
= (SOFA) + (points for pH)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 28
• The SOFA and SOFA+pH were comparable on admission, but the SOFA+pH was slightly more informative at 48 hours.
• The mean SOFA plus pH for survivors was 19.5 on admission and 19.6 at 48 hours.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve for admission score was 0.93.
• At 48 hours the sensitivity was 0.963 and specificity was 0.97.
