Sources of methanol:
(1) solvent
(2) denaturing agent for ethanol
(3) antifreeze component
(4) cooking fuel
(5) fuel for internal combustion engines
(6) photocopying fluid
(7) windshield wiping fluid
Routes of exposure:
(1) inhalation
(2) ingestion
(3) transdermal
Manner of methanol exposure:
(1) industrial accident
(2) domestic accident
(3) intentional use for intoxication purposes, especially by chronic alcoholics
(4) intentional for suicide
(5) intentional to harm another
where:
• Intentional use for intoxication is usually by ingestion but also may be by inhalation ("sniffing").
