Sieves are used to separate powder granules by size. These may be designated by sieve number or the opening size by metric or English units.
The sieve numbers designated 3.5 and higher indicate the number of openings per linear inch of the sieve.
Designations for particle size used in conjunction with the mesh designation:
(1) "+" indicates that the particles are retained by the sieve (diameter of particles > sieve opening)
(2) "-" indicates that the particles pass through the sieve (diameter of particles <= sieve opening)
Usually >= 90% of particles will lie within the specified range.
