Tannus et al reported teh Surgical Approach Renal Ranking (SARR) for the preoperative assessment of a patient with a renal tumor. The score can help to determine the optimum surgical approach. The authors are from Federal University of Sao Paulo.
The score resembles the RENAL score as well as others.
Patient selection: renal tumor
Parameters:
(1) tumor diameter in cm
(2) longitudinal location within the kidney
(3) exophytic growth
(4) extension of involvement of the renal parenchyma
(5) relation to the renal sinus
The tumor is also designated anterior or posterior.

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 4
• maximum score: 17
• A low score favors partial nephrectomy while a high score favors radical nephrectomy.
