Taher et al reported the Thalassemia-Related Thrombosis Risk Scoring System (TRT-RSS) for predicting the risk of thrombosis in a patient with thalassemia. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from interventions to reduce the risk of thrombosis. The authors are from the American University of Beirut, University of Milan and International Network of Hematology (London).
Patient selection: thalassemia
Parameter:
(1) age in years
(2) hemoglobin in g/dL
(3) serum ferritin concentration in micrograms per L
(4) transfusion status
(5) history of splenectomy

• minimum score: 0

• The higher the score the greater the risk of thrombosis.
