Cohen-Mansfield developed the Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI) for rating agitated behavior in institutionalized elderly patients. This can be used to monitor a patient over time and to identify those patients who may benefit from interventions. The authors are from the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington (in Washington, DC).

• The more behaviors that occur and the higher the rating (excluding not applicable) then the more agitated the patient is behaving.
• The authors found that agitated patients had an increase risk for falls.
