The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) is a self-administered instrument for determining the health status of a patient with inflammatory bowel disease. There are 32 questions which are used to derive 4 subscores covering various aspects of the person's life. The questionnaire was developed at McMaster University in Canada.
Groupings of the 32 questions:
(1) bowel symptoms (10)
(2) systemic symptoms (5)
(3) emotional function (12)
(4) social function (5)
Responses are graded using a Likert scale ranging from 1 (worst imaginable) to 7 (normal).
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 32
• maximum score: 224
• The higher the score, the better the patient's functional status.
Limitations:
• Use of the instrument requires a fee-based agreement with McMaster University.
