Description

The Palliative Care Outcome Scale (POS) can be used by health care providers to evaluate outcomes in terminally ill cancer patients receiving palliative care. The scale can be completed quickly and can identify significant problems that need to be addressed. A similar version can be completed by patients in order to provide their input. Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 40

• The higher the score, the more severe the patient's condition.

 

Performance of the score:

• The internal consistency is good, with Cronbach's alpha 0.65-0.70.

• The test/re-test reliability is acceptable for 7 items.

• It shows construct validity, with Spearman's rho 0.43-0.80
