Lowenstein et al developed the TMSP (Toxicomanie, Suivi Medical, Socio-Personnel, et Suivi Psychiatrique) score to grade the severity of a patient's drug abuse. This can help identify patients who require more aggressive interventions. The authors are from the Laennec Hospital in Paris.

(2) other drugs (marijuana, benzodiazepines, amphetamines)

(4) sex partner's drug use
(5) criminal behavior
M Axis
(1) medical examination
(2) treatment
(3) HIV status
S Axis
(1) social situation
P Axis
(1) personality alterations
(2) acts of violence
total score =
= SUM(points for each axis)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 4
• maximum score: 20
• The higher the score the greater the severity of the drug abuse.
