Thrips are tiny insects that can be an agricultural pest. Occasionally they can bother humans.
Phylum: Athropoda
Class: Insecta
Subclass: Pterygota
Order: Thysanoptera
Appearance:
(1) barely visible with the naked eye at 1 mm in length
(2) long and slender body with 6 legs
(3) may or may not have fringed wings
These tiny insects can get around by flying (if they have wings), by jumping or by being carried on the wind.
Usually thrips do not impact humans. However under the right environmental circumstances they can reach very high numbers. If they land on or hop onto a human then they may bite, causing pain.
Thrips are not known to transmit any diseases to humans. However, any wound can become secondarily infected under the right (or wrong) circumstances.
