Thrombosis can be a complication of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS).
Risk factors for thrombosis:
(1) coma with bedridden state
(2) hyperosmolar state
(3) infection
(4) trauma or surgery
(5) history of thrombosis or hypercoagulability
Complications:
(1) acute myocardial infarction
(2) stroke
(3) mesenteric vein thrombosis
(4) deep vein thrombosis with thromboemboli
(5) dural sinus thrombosis
