For some drugs the total lifetime exposure may have some clinical significance. This is somewhat analogous to number of pack years of smoking.
NOTE: This is a simplified version assuming constant dosing and perfect compliance without interruption. A realistic version would need to take into account variations that might arise.
Parameters:
(1) number of units in dose (mg or grams)
(2) number of doses per day
(3) number of years of therapy
total lifetime exposure in units =
= (units per dose) * (dose per day) * (365 days) * (number of years)
