Anterior encephaloceles are rare neural tube defects that may present as a mass. Imaging studies have made it easier to determine the anatomic extent.

(1b) nasoethmoidal
(1c) naso-orbital
(2) orbital
(3) transethmoid nasopharyngeal
Rare types:
(4) transsellar transsphenoidal
(5) anterior fontanelle
(6) inter-frontal
