Description

Radiation exposure is the ratio of the (sum of the electrical charges on all of the ions with one sign produced in air when all of the electrons liberated by photons in a volume element of air are stopped in air) to the volume mass of the air.

According to Documenta Geigy, 1 roentgen (R) produces (2.082 * 10^9) ion pairs per cubic centimeter of air at its normal density of 1.293 mg per cc.
