Trichosporon species may be associated with urinary tract infections (UTI).
Risk factors for a urinary tract infection associated with a Trichosporon species:
(1) indwelling urinary catheter or other device
(2) intensive care unit
(3) immunosuppression
(4) diabetes mellitus
Factors making UTI caused by Trichosporon asahii difficult to treat:
(1) biofilm formation
(2) hemolysin
(3) antifungal resistance
