A zoonosis is an infection in an animal that may be acquired by a human.
Zoonoses may involve:
(1) bacteria
(2) fungi
(3) parasites
(4) viruses
Mode of transmission:
(1) direct animal contact
(2) vector (tick, mosquito, flea, etc)
(3) airborne or waterborne
(4) fomites
(5) animal as foodstuff
Factors that may affect the severity of a zoonosis:
(1) virulence of the organism
(2) human host responses, which may be modified by vaccination
(3) mode of acquisition
